What's New For June 2009?

Certainly some of the most beautiful vintage art illustrations are those with a botanical theme from the turn of the century. Famous publications such as the British Curtis Publishing turned out these images in their periodicals and now they are heavily coveted. Stunning, ornate and incredibly detailed plants, fruit, vegetables, florals are sold as prints for as much as $500.00 for an 8 x 10 print. Now you can get these images in archival quality (no blemishes, extremely high resolution) for a fraction of the price. Check out the last pages of our Botanical section as well as our Fruits and Wine section. We've also added tons of fabulous and rare new images to our Ephemera, Advertising, Travel, Vintage Ladies, Mucha and Pattern categories.
Also, we've just added about fifty new simply stunning Vintage Travel Poster art in our Travel Section. Spanning from amazingly gorgeous Italian landscapes to communist USSR tourism to Sweden to Vegas, Krakow and Japan, you will find all different sizes and resolutions up to archival quality, 5000 pixels at 1200-2400 dpi. All were carefully chosen for their superior design and beauty. *All* were extensively retouched, enhanced and made ready for printing.

Resolution, Archival Quality and Printing-Enhanced.
When we say printing ready, we don't mean 1000-1200 pixel images, which is pretty much the norm as far as what our competition sells. What good is a CD ROM with 500 images when none of them are fit for printing? Although we do have some low res images, and they are priced accordingly, the lion's share of this site constitutes high resolution images that average 2500-3000 pixels in 300-1200 DPI; some go up to 6000. Most are painstakingly retouched, enhanced and restored. This kind of quality image is essential for those who care about quality results. Since our main business is the printing of fine art on tile wall murals, we are experts in making images printing-ready, as it's our business.
Changing the Numbers in Photoshop is Not Enlarging.
Many of the purveyors we've seen of vintage art merely blow up the image in an art program like Photoshop and call it "high resolution", when it is not. When you do this, the computer creates data where none exists to achieve the larger size; this is called interpolation. The end result is blurred, pixelated, lacking in definition; if you are serious about your image quality, this is not going to cut it. This site is for those who appreciate what true high resolution means, for those who intend to use this art for printing canvas, paper, collages, greeting cards, art prints. If you've ever transformed a printed image into a high resolution digital file, you will appreciate the time-savings as well as the prices. To do it right is extremely labor intensive. Not every image on this site is high resolution or archival quality, but most of them are. The ones that are not are priced accordingly.
At What Size Will These Images Print?
It depends on the resolution you choose to print with. Let's say you want to print at 300 dpi. A 2500 x 2500 pixel image will print out very crisply at about 8.3" x 8.3". However, you can also get an excellent commercial quality print at 200 dpi. The aforementioned pixel size at 200 dpi will yield an excellent 12.5" x 12.5" print. The images on this site, in 300 dpi, will range anywhere from 2" to 14". The more data the image has, and the bigger the print it will yield, the higher the price will be. The average print size at 300 dpi on this site is 8"x 10".
Keep this in mind: if the image is 1200-2400 DPI, you can get much BIGGER prints than 8 x 10 because the data will support it. In other words, very high resolutions will yield bigger prints because there is enough data there to enlarge safely without lossy.
Some images will reach as large as 10" x 16" in 300 dpi. Rule of thumb: a 3000 x 3000 pixel image will print at 10" x 10" at 300 dpi.
Please do not not the lower priced images to print wonderfully. It ain't gonna happen. :) Those inexpensive images are meant for artwork and crafting, not printing. Archival images--marked thusly--are the ones that best lend themselves to printing.
